Book Title: "Animal Models in Cardiovascular Research"

Next Image Title

Artist Name

Springer Science & Business Media needed an angiogram of an animal heart for a book cover. We contacted F. D. Giddings, an illustrator represented by Phototake, and he came up with this realistic rendition of a pig heart as it would appear on an angiogram. He tinted the heart in magenta hues, contrasted by golden coronary arteries. The client was delighted with the results.

The role of oxytocin in uterine contractions.

Illustration collage depicting the role of oxytocin in causing uterine contractions. Elevated estrogen levels in late pregnancy trigger the synthesis of prooxyphysin in hypothalamic nuclei. This leads to the release of oxytocin from the posterior pituitary. It is also synthesized in the placenta. There is a subsequent increase in the display of oxytocin receptors in the deciduas and myometrium of the uterine wall.
