Wood fern (Dryopteris flix-mas) is a common fern of the temperate Northern Hemisphere. Spore capsules (Sporangia) are growing on the lower side of its leaves. Lots of these sporangia are seen here. When drying off the capsules break open and fling out most of the spores, others will be blown out by the wind.
