medical illustration of Wood fern (Dryopteris flix-mas) is a common fern of the temperate Northern Hemisphere. Spore capsules (Sporangia) are growing on the lower side of its leaves. Lots of these sporangia are seen here. When drying off the capsules break open and fling out most of the spores, others will be blown out by the wind.

They are flattened on the sides, very smooth and can move quickly in the fur. Dog fleas can jump up to 40 cm wide and 20 cm high. Under perfect conditions (25°C / 80% relative humidity) their development takes about 3 weeks.
