Next medical illustration of Valeriana, flower
Valerian is a perennial herbaceous plant of Central Europe. It grows up to 50 - 100 cm high. All valerian species contain alkaloids and especially ethereal oils. In particular the sesquiterpenes are responsible for the sleep-inducing and calming effect. From valerian root dry extracts or tinctures are obtained, which are used as sedatives or sleeping pills. Here you can see a single bloom, only few millimeters in size.
