This is a painterly illustration of a megakaryocyte. These cells are found in the bone marrow and are responsible for the production of blood platelets. Platelets are formed by the breaking off of the tips of the megakaryocyte's pseudopods. Megakaryocytes have a characteristic multilobulated nucleus.
