Next medical illustration of Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) is a rare and severe disease caused by a single-celled amoeba called Naegleria fowleri, which infects individuals when swimming in fresh water streams, lakes, and ponds. The amoeba travels via the nasal passages, comes in contact with nerve endings causing inflammation and destruction of the brain and the linings of the brain. Amoebic meningoencephalitis is usually fatal.
