Zika virus transmission from a female mosquito biting skin. The virus is spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes. The virus enters the bloodstream, leading to infection and symptoms such as fever, rash and joint pain. Pregnant women can spread the infection to their fetus, causing birth defects like microcephaly. No vaccine or medication is available yet.
