Walnut Beach Intertidal Habitat

Previous Image Title

Dorie Petrochko

Walnut Beach Habitat Walnut Beach in Milford, CT is one of the many Long Island Sound rocky inter-tidal zones, where organisms live between the extreme high and low tides. This results in frequent exposure of plant and animals to the air at low tide and immersion in the water at high tide. Protection and respect for marine plants and animals are very important for a healthy shoreline ecosystem like Walnut Beach.

Transition from Surface to Shaft mining in Copper and Bronze Age Serbia

Previous Image Title

Kelly Finan

Copper isotopes behave differently in near-surface environments than in non-weathering environments found deeper in the earth. By sampling copper isotopes (63 and 65) in metal artifacts from Copper and Bronze Age Serbia, Dr. Mathur and his colleagues discovered the approximate time that people of this region were introduced to shaft mining, a technique already in practice in the middle east. Soon to be published in the Journal of Archaeological Science.

Cover art for journal issue on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Previous Image Title

Jonathan Dimes

The assignment was to create cover art that incorporated different factors that could result in PTSD, as discussed in the manuscript. Photographs I had taken were combined and edited in Photoshop with public domain images. I.e. The child was photographed in his father's arms and then placed into a photo taken of the fireman, and the background added. Once the composite was approved, outlines, shadows, and highlights were added to create the final effect.
