Here is a painting of the Crocus sativus (Purple Crocus) flower in different stages of flowering. This plant is well known for its use as a source of saffron. The illustration shows the complete plant with bulbs and roots. The study was completed in a class on botanical watercolor illustration but is suitable for articles in horticultural and trade magazines, illustrations on bulb packages, and in gardening books. It is painted in transparent watercolor on Arches paper.
