medical illustration of Rose Breasted Grosbeak, perched, Hobblebush, nesting, blooming

This painting shows a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks perched on branches of Hobblebush in spring when it is blooming. The colorful plumage of the male contrasts with the dull browns of the female, protective for her and enabling her to hide in the trees while nesting. The painting was completed in transparent watercolors on Arches paper and used for a note card series.
