The intestinal tight junction is an important structure in the maintenance of digestive system homeostasis and protection against IBS, IBSD, and Crohn's disease. Intracellular components of the tight junction connect to the epithelial cell's cytoskeleton, while loops of claudin and occludin proteins connect to other tight junctions and control the intercellular space.
