Erosion of the occipital-C1 joint causes the head to drop on the affected side-this is known as Grisel Syndrome. The chin falls to the chest, and the neck is in deep torticollis. Fixation and distraction of the upper cervical spine straightened, and the head is returned to a normal posture.
