Micrognathia is a congenital condition in which the mandible is abnormally small, or grows too slowly. Traditional treatment is a surgical distraction procedure, involving dividing the ramus of the mandible and applying distraction device.
At Stanford, pediatric otolaryngologists have developed a simple plate which gently advances the tongue, thereby stimulating the mandible to grow normally. A simple, non-surgical fix!
