Next medical illustration of Each coronavirus spike protein is a group of three identical proteins that help the virus infect host cells. The spikes are embedded in a lipid bilayer. The outer membrane is made up of membrane proteins, with a few envelope proteins interspersed between them. Inside, nucleoproteins help organize and protect the virus's RNA. The host cell translates viral RNA into new viral proteins, some of which are assembled into new copies of the virus that continue the cycle by infecting other cells.
