This is a cover illustration for an Organic Chemistry book by Marc Loudon. 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Chauvin, Grubbs, and Schrock, for pioneering work on olefin Metathesis. In this reaction the carbons in two double bonds are swapped. The molecules represent intermediates toward the synthesis of epothilone a natual product that exhibits antitumor activity by binding microtubules. Epotholone derivatives are in clinical trials for cancer chemotherapy.
