This animation was made to introduce cardiac surgeons and other stakeholders to the HeartWare System, its use and key technological advantages. It was important to clearly illustrate the pump’s proprietary suspension system, which eliminates wear. To focus viewer attention, we rendered the system and heart photorealistically and used a simpler illustrative style for supporting elements.

This animation tells an interesting patient story from a unique perspective of Sonja, who is currently living with primary immunodeficiency and the key message emphasises the advantages of switching to the new medication. As a result of using it, Sonja is able to go about her daily life without letting the illness interfere. Sonja’s character was built in 3D and rigged for an animated immersive 360 VR experience. The article described two theories of nerve signal propagation. This piece draws the viewer in with a charismatic neuron, and illustrates the two theories in parallel, allowing the viewers to easily compare & contrast.
Simplified models were used for the ion channels, so that excess visual complexity didn't add to the high cognitive load required to interpret the piece.

When NanoView first approached us they were looking for an updated series of illustrations to help explain their technology. Through our discussions we found that they also were in need for a website redesign as well as branded marketing materials and exhibition graphics. We used their logo as our style guide and designed content that resulted in a polished and cohesive visual brand that they could present to their investors and customers.

Dorie Petrochko has been working with Jennifer Mattei, professor of Biology at Sacred Heart University on an interpretive sign for the Coastal Estuary Restoration Project at Stratford Point Audubon in Stratford, CT. This was the original site of the Stratford Gun Club where an extensive lead abatement project was implemented. Now a team of staff, students and volunteers are restoring the site back to its original condition to encourage wildlife to live and nest in these areas.

The illustration was created for biological-mesh manufacturer ACell, as part of a series of images in a printed booklet to teach surgical technique for placement of their product in anterior vaginal wall prolapse repair. Copper isotopes behave differently in near-surface environments than in non-weathering environments found deeper in the earth. By sampling copper isotopes (63 and 65) in metal artifacts from Copper and Bronze Age Serbia, Dr. Mathur and his colleagues discovered the approximate time that people of this region were introduced to shaft mining, a technique already in practice in the middle east.

The BeBopBrain platform was commissioned by Dr. Topun Austin from the Evelyn Perinatal Imaging Centre (EPIC) at the Rosie Hospital, Cambridge.
The 3D model of the brain was created from infant ultrasound data converted into a 3D surface, rendered in Zbrush and Blender and assembled onto CSIX's own platform software developed by Mr. Nils Schaetti.

A series of animations created for the BC Health Authority to educate parents of newly diagnosed children with various hearing pathologies. Videos also include live footage featuring actual families and hearing simulations.
We created an animation to introduce a new type of heart monitor that is smaller, more comfortable, water resistant, and best of all, captures and records a better cardiac wave signal. It was created for patients and doctors, and shows the benefits and application procedure.

This painting was created as a large format illustration for multi-use, including as a fine art giclée canvas print to be on permanent exhibit at the headquarters of a biotechnology firm. It depicts the binding of the investigational fusion protein SIRPalphaFc to FcgammaR on a macrophage cell and to CD47 receptors on a tumor cell.
The assignment was to create cover art that incorporated different factors that could result in PTSD, as discussed in the manuscript. Photographs I had taken were combined and edited in Photoshop with public domain images. I.e. The child was photographed in his father's arms and then placed into a photo taken of the fireman, and the background added. Once the composite was approved, outlines, shadows, and highlights were added to create the final effect.
During the month of October, I fulfill many requests for illustrations that help women understand breast cancer. I am very proud of the work I have done, and continue to do for breastcancer.org
This image was part of a powerpoint presentation that was given before Congress to talk about the research being done on genomic therapies for dermatological cancers. The content had to be very clear and basic for a non-scientist audience.

This is part of a series of illustrations for the exhibit Why Frogs Don't Get Fat: Predators, Fear and Feeding in the Wild at the Museum of Texas Tech University. The show highlights the fear and survival research of Dr. James Carr and Dr. Breanna Harris from the Biology department. This illustration is a 5 foot backlit interactive touch panel that shows the various fight or flight responses. I also created six other large panels highlighting fear responses in animals and humans.
