Microtubules are long, hollow tubes present in each of your cells. They help to maintain the shape of the cell, and they form rails along which material is transported throughout the cell. They even help with cell division. This image is a still from an animation showing how microtubules assemble from protein molecules randomly scattered throughout every cell. The animation has been rendered in real-time with our in-house molecular rendering engine Marion.
